Is SD Bullion Legit?
Quick answer: SD Bullion publishes detailed terms for returns, shipping, payment, pricing and buyback, which we read on October 28, 2026 and tabulate below. Its own pages sometimes disagree with each other and with its BBB profile on founding dates, signature rules and review totals. We list each mismatch, and we did not settle which version is right.
What we checked
The terms are spread across several pages, so we list each point with the page it came from. For the framework behind it, see our guide to the safest place to buy silver online. We opened its about page, its returns and refunds page, the shipping policy, the payment and pricing page, the sell page and several help-center answers, then its BBB profile. All of them were read in a normal browser on October 28, 2026.
Each row in the table has a status. STATED means a page we read says it. NOT STATED means we read the page and the point was absent. CAN'T BE CHECKED means we could not load the page that would settle it. The source and read date sit beside every row.

We kept everything the company says about itself separate from what the bureau page says. Where the two differ we say so, in the section below, and we attribute each version to its own source.
Where the company's own pages disagree
This is the part most dealer write-ups skip. It matters because a cautious buyer should know which sentence to rely on when two sentences conflict, and the answer is usually: ask, and get the reply in writing.
Founding and history. The about page says orders have shipped since 2012. The BBB profile lists a business start date in 2011 and an incorporation date years later, in 2018. None of this is alarming, since a business can trade as a sole proprietor before it incorporates, but the dates do not line up, and we do not know why. The about page also does not print a city or street address, while the bureau profile does list one.
Review totals and rating history. The about page claims a review total on the bureau site and an rating history running from 2012. The profile we read the same day showed a smaller review total and an accreditation date later than 2012. We print neither review figure here. Each one belongs with its own source, and the table shows the profile's numbers.
Signature on delivery. The shipping help-center answer says orders do not always ship with a required signature, that signature confirmation can be added for a small charge by phone, and that all orders ship insured. A different help-center answer on trust says a signature will be required. These cannot both be true for every order. If a signature matters to you, say so when you order, and ask for the choice confirmed in writing, because the insurance terms treat a waived signature as a gap in cover.
Size claims. The about page and the help-center footer print order, customer and transaction totals, and the two pages give different transaction totals. They are the company's own marketing figures, undated, so we do not repeat them. The about page also ranks the company among the largest online sellers in the country. We have not tested that claim, and you should treat it as the company's description of itself.
Returns, cancellations and the short windows
The returns page sets tight limits, so read them before the order and not after. A defect or a fulfillment error must be reported within three business days of confirmed delivery, and the page says a late report permanently waives the claim. The customer pays to send items back for a refund or exchange. Whether you receive a refund or a replacement is at the company's sole discretion.
Returned products carry a restocking charge, set as a percentage or a flat amount, whichever is higher, and may also be subject to market loss. Items must come back in original packaging and condition. A piece damaged by an acid test, cleaning or another intrusive method will not be accepted. That last point connects to the testing advice in our guide on how to tell if silver bullion is real: test non-destructively, and keep the packaging.
Cancelled or unpaid orders are covered separately on the payment page. After the payment deadline, the order is subject to market loss, a cancellation charge and collection costs. A locked order is described as a binding agreement that cannot be canceled without penalty.
Shipping and insurance
Free shipping and insurance apply above a stated order total, calculated on the cash-discount price, and a flat charge applies at or below it. The normal queue runs one to three business days after payment clears. Insurance is capped by the mail service used, with a lower cap on first-class mail than on priority mail. Cover does not apply if a signature is waived, if someone other than the addressee signs, or if you ship to a mail store, package locker or similar location.
A problem must be reported within three business days of delivery. The company files the insurance claim and replaces or refunds at its sole discretion, and the help center says claims can take up to thirty days. Hold requests longer than thirty days attract storage charges. Put these together and the lesson is practical: be home, or arrange a signer, and inspect the package the day it arrives. Our guide to pay for silver online lists the arrival checks.
Payment methods and how prices lock
The payment page lists accepted methods with a cap on each: bank wire (the only method accepted for the largest orders and not offered for the smallest), personal and cashier's checks, postal money orders, cards, Bitcoin, PayPal and electronic checks. It names methods it does not accept, including one major card network and prepaid cards. It says cards and PayPal are not eligible for the cash discount while electronic checks are. Bitcoin payments must be made within 15 minutes of submitting the order.
Pricing locks when you confirm and place the order, and stays locked until payment arrives, whichever method you pick. Changing to a non-cash payment afterward changes the price. The company also describes a price-match policy: call before ordering, and it says it will match or beat a competitor's advertised price, with flash sales excluded, compared on total price. We did not test that claim.
The help center calls a bank wire the safest and most common way to pay for larger orders. That is the company's view. The FTC's wire-transfer page says money sent that way usually cannot be recovered, so weigh that against what a card dispute would give you. The silver premiums guide shows how to compare a quote that bakes in a cash discount with one that does not.
Buyback
The sell page says the company buys back gold, silver, platinum and palladium, with a call to lock a price. Listed bid prices are described as indications that are not locked until you talk with the buyback team. Payment is issued one to three business days after processing, and items are inspected for authenticity on receipt. ACH payouts usually take longer, and a wire payout carries an additional charge. The page also markets its payout level as the highest in its industry. We did not test that claim and make no comparison.
Regulators, and how to run the check yourself
A site-limited web search of four federal regulator domains for any enforcement action naming the company found no page naming it; the results concerned other businesses. That is a search result, not a docket check, and no regulator database was queried directly. Do your own lookups and your state attorney general's page before a large order.
The help center publishes its own list of warning signs, including pressure, unusual payment demands and a missing return policy. It is a sensible list, and it applies to every seller, so test the company's own terms against it as well. Our page on silver dealer red flags has the full set with what to do about each.
Next to the other dealer checks
The company posts a longer list of conditions than the others we read. That is not a point for or against it; more words on a page means more to read, not more protection. Set it beside the JM Bullion check, which tabulates a different set of published terms, and the APMEX check, where the company's own pages were unreadable. For a table limited to what is stated for two of them, see JM Bullion vs APMEX.
If you are early in the process, is it safe to buy silver online lays out the seven checks that apply whichever seller you choose. For a purchase at a scale where a phone relationship matters more than a cart, Augusta Precious Metals for silver explains a different model with a stated $50,000 minimum.
What this page can't tell you
This page cannot tell you which of the company's conflicting statements will apply to your order, and it cannot tell you how a claim would go in practice. It cannot tell you today's stock or price, or whether the policies were revised after October 28, 2026. When in doubt, ask the company to confirm in writing. The home page, on buying silver online safely, shows the wider routine.
Frequently asked questions
How soon must I report a problem with an SD Bullion order?
The returns page says a defect or fulfillment error must be reported within three business days of confirmed delivery, or the claim is waived. The shipping policy gives the same three-business-day window for transit problems. Read both pages before you order, and inspect the package the day it arrives.
Will my package need a signature?
The company's pages give two answers. One help-center entry says orders do not always ship with a required signature and that confirmation can be added by phone. Another says a signature will be required. Insurance does not cover a waived signature, so ask for your choice in writing.
Do the about page and the BBB profile agree?
Not entirely. They differ on when the business began, on review totals and on how long the rating history has run. We print each version beside its own source and the fact table shows the profile's numbers with the date. We cannot tell you which is right.
Does the company buy silver back?
Yes, according to its sell page: you call to lock a price, ship the item, and payment follows processing and inspection. Bid prices on the page are indications only until locked. Ask what happens to a quote if the inspection finds an issue.
